Professor Ray Jones, Chair
Professor Jones is a registered social worker with over 40 years’ experience in the social work sector. He was the first appointed chief executive of the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and has also served as the deputy chair and chair of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW).
From 1992 to 2006 he was at Wiltshire County Council, where he led a top three-star rated service as the Director of Social Services, then as the Director of Adult and Community Services. He is now a Professor of Social Work in the faculty of Health, Social Care and Education at Kingston University and St George's, University of London. He is also the independent chair of Children's Improvement Boards in three areas in England, overseeing child protection improvement.
He has published over 100 papers and five books, the most recent of which, 'The Story of Baby P: Setting the record straight', is published by Policy Press.
