Bradford Council are delighted to be sponsoring ‘Student Social Worker of the Year’ at this years prestigious national Social Worker of the Year Awards. This category is close to our hearts in Bradford as it mirrors our commitment to raise the profile of professional social work in our city and the surrounding areas. It also allows us to very clear in enhancing the well-being of our residents to ensure greater independence and choice for all adults in supporting them to be happy, healthy and at home wherever possible.

Bradford Council is an extremely proud employer of social work and a profession that provides the best possible platform for social workers to practice from. Across our service we have social workers supporting people who require social work support to become Human Rights champions, ensuring their rights are upheld and they are supported to remain as independent as possible.

In Bradford we believe that ground breaking and innovative practice which raises the profile of social work starts with student social workers and is embedded through our brilliant Newly Qualified Social Workers. We work closely in partnership with our local College and University to recruit the best people into the profession, based on their thirst for social justice and their commitment to practicing in a manner than embodies our social work values. We are also very proud to have been successful this year in a bid submitted to the Department of Education, to establish a Social Work Teaching Partnership in Bradford.  The partnership will bring together Bradford Councils Adult and Childrens social work, Bradford College and the University of Bradford to provide a holistic approach in teaching and to the recruitment of social workers.

Our Continuous Professional Development offer enables social workers at all levels to experience a career pathway that is tailored for them, steeped in our rights based approach, and blends academic rigour with advanced practice development. Our Children’s Service raised the profile of social work through investing in social work to recognise and build on Signs of Safety. Our Adult Service raise the profile of social work through embedding a human rights based approach to their work which recognising the unique skills and collective strengths of individuals, families, carers and the wider communities. Adult Social Workers in Bradford support the person to remain in control and exercise genuine choice regardless of the level of health and social care support that they may require.

We believe that social work is a profession that should be celebrated. Good social work is very often discreet in order that it upholds confidentiality and maintains the dignity of those people who require social work support. However, in Bradford we believe that it is right to celebrate the successes of social work support where we can.  We are delighted to be a part of the Social Work Awards and congratulate all the social workers who are honoured by an award this year. Moreover, we also wish to express our sincere thanks to all the thousands of social workers who work tirelessly to support people in our society who require social work support so that they have their voice heard.
