Social work plays an important role in our society. It can be a rewarding profession, helping to repair relationships and look after vulnerable people. It can also be a difficult and demanding job. That’s why Hampshire County Council is delighted to sponsor these awards to highlight some of the great work achieved by social workers.
We’re particularly pleased to sponsor the Mental Health Social Worker of the Year Award. For too long it’s been a hidden illness within communities. Yet one in four people in the UK experience a mental health problem each year. Highly skilled individuals are needed to support them, which is why mental health social workers are so greatly valued.
Demand for adults’ social care is increasing. In Hampshire we receive 130,000 contacts for support a year from all aspects of the community. Managing that demand is a real challenge, but we are in a good position to meet it. Hampshire County Council has a hard earned reputation for real commitment to social care and working in positive ways with stakeholders. Our delivery of social work has long been at the cutting edge and we are always keen to develop ourselves as a centre of good practice. This can be seen in our Transformation Programme where we are seeking to reinvigorate the way we operate.
We hope these awards will continue to inspire and encourage colleagues in our profession to excel even further than they already do.
